Resources and downloads

After the 13th of May 2013, the CHB will not be able to post data downloads for recently published sites (i.e. St Mary Spital) online.  If you wish to include these data in your studies, please contact the Centre so we can organise this for you.

Registration

We ask all users to complete the Database user information form  to help us improve this resource.

WORD data downloads

In this section you will find detailed information relating to the Wellcome Osteological Research Database (WORD). The data downloads are divided by archaeological period, and you can also select specific skeletal context information by cemetery.

We recommend that all users also download the Osteology Method Statement revised 2012 (PDF 514kb, opens in new window) and WORD Oracle database manual (PDF 194kb, opens in a new window).

Please note that period/site/context information may be updated or changed  by the Centre in light of on-going research.

Referencing the database

In the text: WORD database, year - cite the year you downloaded the data.

For example, (WORD database, 2009).

In the bibliography: WORD database, Museum of London. Accessed (dd/mm/yy) and the webpage address

For example, WORD database, Museum of London. Accessed (01/08/09)

Additional pathological information

The additional pathological records are paper based records (PBR) also separated by cemetery. These supplement the pathological descriptions in the data downloads, and were only written if documentation space on the database was exceeded. If an individual context number does have these records, it will be stated in the data download.

Photographic images

Photographic images are strongly related to the data downloads, though they can be viewed independently. Please note that these images only have summary captions; more detailed information is located in the pathological descriptions, in the data downloads.
