'Redford's Celebrated Tobacco Manufactory' was based in Clerkenwell. It imported brands of tobacco such as Virginia. Virginia in the United States was a major tobacco growing area where the crop was cultivated using slave labour. Slavery was not abolished in the United States until 1865.
