This sign for the Savoy Grill was illuminated from within by electric lightbulbs. The restaurant was originally a supper room for actors performing at the Savoy Theatre adjacent to the Savoy Hotel in the Strand. One frequent diner was Noël Coward. The hotel particularly appealed to American visitors, and the grill served a variety of American dishes. Terrapin, clams and oysters were all imported from the US when in season.
