This calendar was issued by the Muslim Association of Nigeria for the Islamic Year 1413 -14 to raise money to purchase a base for their activities. Ramadan falls during the ninth month of the Islamic year, which is based on a lunar calendar. Ramadan took place in February and March of 1993. It requires Muslims to fast between sunrise and sunset and to concentrate on the spiritual side of life through prayer and contemplation. It is a holy time because it commemorates the month when the first verses of the Koran were revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. The end of Ramadan is marked by the festival Eid ul-Fitr, an occasion for feasting, charity and gift giving and an end to feuds.
