    This commemorative handkerchief is captioned 'The Great Exhibition of the industry of all nations'. It depicts the Crystal Palace and the international scope of the exhibition. The Great Exhibition was Prince Albert's idea and it demonstrated British prosperity and imperial power. The exhibition leaflet boasts that: 'We have here the Indian Court, Africa, Canada, the West Indies, the Cape of Good Hope,' listing all the territories which constitued the British Empire. Six million visitors came to the exhibition during the year that it stayed open.
