The London Zoological Gardens in Regent's Park acquired animals from all over the world. Despite being accompanied by specialist handlers on the long journey, many animals died before they reached the city. However, these four giraffes, called Zaïda, Marbrouck, Selim and Guib Allah, all survived the trip from their native Africa. Their keepers wear Arabic clothing, such as robes, slippers and fezzes. Two smoke long pipes and they all carry formidable looking swords.

Four giraffes, two standing, one attempting to stand and one sitting. Two of their keepers, in Middle Eastern dress, are on one side and two on the other.
