This electric vacuum cleaner is a Hoover model 700. Early upright cleaners were heavy and utilitarian, and generally cleaned using suction only. The model 700 was the first Hoover vacuum to have an additional agitator and brush unit to 'beat as it sweeps as it cleans'.
