Humphrey Spender photographed these young children playing in streets around Stepney terraces. They are clambering over a Ford Popular CX motorcar. Although simpler motorcars were mass-produced during the 1930s and were becoming affordable to more people, this car would still have been a huge attraction, parked in the poorer streets of Stepney.
