Dress

Producer: Wallis

Date: c. 1976

Accession number: 81.269

Measurements: size 8; length 108.5cm.

This viscose dress, made from two floral prints, was bought from Wallis in about 1976. It was worn with black patent wedge-heel strappy sandals. The shallow neckline is shaped with a drawstring tie that fastens at the centre front and is finished with tassels. The dress has raglan sleeves and a full, mid-calf-length skirt of four bias-cut panels. It has a narrow self tie-belt. Wallis fashion shops are well established on British high streets. This dress demonstrates how high street retailers can replicate contemporary high fashion looks, in this case the bohemian folk style of the 1970s, by using less expensive materials and a smaller fabric allowance.
