Museum of London, Museum of London Docklands and Museum of London Archaeology are three separate locations uniting the collective work of Museum of London.

London is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in the world with a story stretching back over a quarter of a million years. Museum of London is committed to recording and explaining change in every part of London life, to tell its past, present and future stories.

Museum of London is one of the world’s largest urban history museums and cares for over two million objects in its collection. Currently undergoing major redevelopment work for its Capital City project from 2010 the Museum will take its story from prehistoric London to the 21st century for the very first time.

The Museum also holds the largest archaeological archive in Europe of this wealth of information.

Museum of London was incorporated by Act of Parliament in 1965 and is governed by the Museum of London Act 1986. It is an exempt charity as defined by Schedule 2 of the Charities Act 1993

Museum of London Docklands

Telling a 2000 year story of river, port and people, Museum of London Docklands is situated in a late Georgian Grade I listed warehouse on West India Quay – at the heart of London’s historic Docklands.

Museum of London Docklands explores the social and economic significance of the port of London, for a time the busiest in the world. It is the only permanent collection in London to examine the capital’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade with the gallery London, Sugar and Slavery.

For over 30 years Museum of London Archaeology has provided archaeology services to the property and heritage sectors. Highly regarded in both the development industry and in academia, Museum of London Archaeology has unearthed the fabric of London and help shape the writing of its history.
