This suffragette banner is formed from personal contributions by suffragettes imprisoned in Holloway Gaol. It is made from linen in the three Women's Social and Political Union colours: purple, white and green. The central panel is made from smaller rectangles embroidered in purple silk with the signatures of 80 women hunger-strikers. The banner can be described as a politicised version of the traditional 'friendship' quilt. The signatories include Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst, Emily Wilding Davison, Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence and Annie Kenny.
