Ceramics & glass community project
February and March 2004
In February and March 2004, Museum of London worked in collaboration with artist Sophie Buxton and 14 pupils aged between 11 - 15 years from the Beatrice Tate School, a special school in Tower Hamlets, to create their own interpretations of the Museum’s ceramics and glass collection.
The school visited the Ceramics and Glass Store at Mortimer Wheeler House to look at objects in the collection. They had a tour of the store, met curators working with the collection and were able to handle some of the objects.

Back in the classroom the pupils took part in 2 workshop sessions to design, create and decorate clay pots inspired by objects from the ceramics and glass collection. In particular they explored how different patterns were made through mark-making techniques.

The finished pieces were displayed in the Ceramics and Glass Store at Mortimer Wheeler House during an open day in March and then at Beatrice Tate School.
