Evening Classes
Do you have a passion for London? Museum of London runs an exciting programme of events about London’s history for adults of all ages and interests. A range of evening courses are held either on afternoons or evenings and run for a few weeks up to a full year. Some classes are run with Birkbeck or Morley College and lead to accredited qualifications.

Museums for the 21st Century
This exciting new module explores the issues behind the recent and ongoing renovation of three of London’s major museums – London’s Transport Museum, the Museum of Childhood and the Museum of London. Through talks, discussions and behind the scenes tours with curators we consider issues of object display, interpretation, access, and audience, as well as some of the particular challenges facing these very different venues. This module will take place over two evenings and four Saturdays.

Everyday life in Medieval London: 1000-1500
What did London look like between 886 and 1500? Where and how did Londoners live? What sis they eat and drink? How did they enjoy themselves and where did they go shopping? What illnesses did they suffer from and how were they treated? How did they deal with sanitation? These fascinating modules of everyday life based at the Museum of London will explore these and other questions.

Urban Myths: writing from the City
You will us a range of fiction and life writing extracts, and the Museum of London’s current shows – including sound and video archives, objects and visual art – to develop writing about, or inspired by London and its residents. You will explore ways of generating ideas for writing and develop your understanding of technique and form. You will also complete a personal fiction or life writing piece.

Upcoming courses
The Bare Bones
A non-assessed practical course for beginners in the study of human skeletal remains from our enormous collection from archaeological excavations of London’s cemeteries from the Romans to the early 19th century. The course will focus on the analysis, identification and recording of human remains. It will cover basic skeletal anatomy, including how to estimate age and gender, and which bones to measure and what these measurements tell us about physique and stature. The skeletons will be used to show health status, common diseases and trauma. No previous knowledge is required. (A book box will not be provided).
