Spend the day together as a family… If you’re looking for something fun and free for all the family to do during the summer holidays then come along to Museum of London for a great day out that everyone can enjoy, from under 5s to over 60s!

Victorian playtime

Sat 14 – Mon 16 Aug, 11am – 4pm
Come and play with 150 year old children's toys. Which one will be your favourite? 5+

Catch!

Sat 14 & Sun 15 Aug, 12.30-2pm & 2.30-4pm
Play a game of Jacks in their original form using sheep knucklebones, then make your own set to take home. 5+

Film to flipbook

Tue 17 Aug, 12-1pm, 1.30-2.30pm & 3-4pm
FREE but tickets allocated on arrival
Make your own film then turn it into a flipbook in this history-inspired session in our e-Learning studio. 5+

Toys through the ages

Tue 17 & Tue 24 Aug, 2-3pm
Meet the Museum's curators and let them guide you through London's past using toys from our Roman, medieval and Tudor collections. 5+

Caring for toys

Wed 18 Aug, 11am – 1pm & 2-3.30pm
Join the Museum's conservators and see how they look after our amazing collection of toys. 5+

Bill and Ben puppet fun

Wed 18 & 25 Aug, 11-11.30pm, 12-12.30am & 2-230pm
FREE but tickets allocated on arrival
Have fun making and playing with your own Bill or Ben puppet and then see if you can find them in the galleries.

Never board

Thu 19 & Mon 23 Aug, 12.30-2pm & 2.30-4pm
Be inspired by old and new board games and learn more about their history, then make your own to take home. 3+

Favourite toy

Explore stories of favourite toys as our storyteller entertains you with examples from around the world. 5+

Archaeology up close – my childhood

Fri 20 Aug, 12-2pm & 2.30-4pm
Children and toys go hand in hand. Learn more from the staff at the Museum's archaeological archive about how this has been true all the way through London's past. You will have the opportunitiy to get close to and be able to handle some of the very old toys. 7+

Jumping through hoops

Sat 21 – Mon 23 Aug, 1-1.30pm, 2-2.30pm & 3-3.30pm
Hear the fun story of one of the most popular toys in Victorian London. It was so popular that both the police and parliament tried to stop it! 5+

Roman toys

Sat 21 & Sun 22 Aug, 11.30am – 4pm
Meet Roman soldiers and learn about their more peaceful activities. What sort of games did they play to keep themselves amused in the evenings? Have a go and see if you can beat the master. 5+

Get moving

Tue 24 & Wed 25 Aug, 12.30-2pm & 2.30-4pm
Make your own mini animations using just a strip of paper and a spinning drum. 3+

Now you see it

Thu 26 & Mon 30 Aug, 12.30-2pm & 2.30-4pm
Discover the secrets of optical illusions then make a toy to baffle your friends. 3+

Toys old and new

Thu 26 & Sun 29 Aug, 11.30am – 1pm & 1.30-3pm
Can you spot the new toys amongst the old? See how toys have changed over time and learn more about them in this object handling and art session. 5+

A miniature house

Fri 27 & Sat 28 Aug, 12.30-2pm & 2.30-4pm
In this art workshop we will look closely at the amazing 18th century doll's house belonging to the Blackett family. Made as a replica of their own house, they could recreate life in their family through small world play. Before you go make a copy or recreate your own home. 5+

Day out at the seaside

Fri 27 – Sun 29 Aug, 12.30-1.15pm, 2-2.45pm & 3.30-4.15pm
An interactive storytelling session about going on a trip to the seaside, a popular pastime for Victorian families. The session will look at toys, food and clothes worn for the outing. 5+

Hamleys' favourites

Mon 30 Aug, 11.30am – 1pm & 1.30-3pm
Hamleys has been selling toys in London for over 250 years. In partnership with the Museum, staff from the favourite toy shop will show off some of their best sellers over the years. You can also meet the Hamleys bear! Or why not take part in our special Hamleys family trail for a chance to win £250 of Hamleys vouchers! 5+
