Floating City
Paintings from Canada Tower 1997-2000
Thursday 19 April to Monday 6 August 2001

Floating City is a dramatic series of paintings of the spectacular view from the top of Canada Tower, Canary Wharf. They are the work of artist John Lewis who in 1997, with the help of the Museum of London, became artist in residence on the 49th floor.

As the Dome slowly went up, this unique vantage point provided a panorama of London that few people could witness. The painter's bold and luminous works reflect the changing skyline and shifting, atmospheric nature of the city spread out in all directions far below.
