Pottery jar

About AD 500

This type of jar was introduced by Saxon immigrants from northern Germany. It was shaped by hand, and decorated with a simple linear and punched design.

The jar probably comes from a disturbed grave. It is the earliest near-complete Saxon pot to have been discovered in central London.
