Permanent exhibitions

We have nine permanent galleries open to the public. The galleries are free to enter and you can explore the story of London from prehistoric times until the present day.

Five of these nine galleries  make up the Museum’s acclaimed new development, the Galleries of Modern London, which were opened by Sir Michael Caine on 27 May 2010. These galleries tell the story of London from 1666 in three period galleries:

Alongside these are the City Gallery, a home for the Lord Mayor’s Coach, and the Victorian Walk, an old favourite with museum visitors.

Follow the links on the left to find out about our galleries, plus our exciting new ground floor space, the Sackler Hall.
