Few of the buildings rebuilt after the fire survive today. They have either been demolished or were destroyed in subsequent fires or by bombings during the Second World War. However there are some remaining, the most famous being St Paul’s Cathedral. Also, 29 of the other 51 churches designed by Christopher Wren still stand.
Less well known are the houses that were rebuilt – a scattering of these survives around the City and in the Temple area. It is well worth taking the time to explore these hidden treasures and get a sense of what the new London was like at the end of the 1600s.
