Where did it start?
It started in Thomas Farriner’s bakery on Pudding Lane. Farriner’s maid was the first person to die.
How was it put out?
The fire was extinguished by creating firebreaks and by dousing the flames with water, though a major contributing factor was the fact that the high winds, which were spreading the fire so quickly, dropped on Tuesday night.
How many people died?
Possibly less than ten. There are only six officially recorded deaths and a few others mentioned in documents. No report suggests that the death toll was high.
What were the immediate effects?
An estimated 100,000 people were made homeless.
£10 million worth of damage was caused.
There were just 6 officially recorded deaths
How was London rebuilt?
The rebuilding started in 1667 and lasted nearly 50 years (though much of the work was finished by the 1690s). The last building, St Paul’s Cathedral, was completed in 1710.
The last house plot was staked out in 1696.
9000 houses were rebuilt in all.
