City sounds
Took place: June - August 2006
Tosin: ‘Drumming – I’ve never done it before – it was great, and the group was great to work with’
Abdul: ‘I enjoyed everything, the people, the way we learnt stuff. Learning different ideas about London. I enjoyed working in a group and bringing my own ideas in. It was good exercise.’
The Museum worked with young adults from CLASP, the care leavers after support programme in Newham, as well as young unemployed adults from TNG Workzone. The group and musicians from Music for Change used London as the inspiration to develop a piece of music that integrated south African vocals, gumboot dancing and west African drumming, as well as rap. The music was also taken into the galleries to inspire visitors.
