Secondary schools
We offer a wide range of experiences for secondary pupils. As part of a programme they can question experts such as curators and archaeologists, chat with historical characters, investigate objects and take part in discussions and debates. Sixth form students can explore issues in depth through interactive study days led by specialists.
All sessions have been tailored to fit the National Curriculum or related examination syllabuses and include priority use of the relevant gallery. Booked sessions are supported by resource packs with activity sheets for pupils to use in the relevant gallery.
We offer a free outreach service to secondary schools, including theatrical performances, creative workshops, actor-led sessions and opportunities to gain insights into the past from original artefacts. Video conference sessions and loan boxes are also available for key stage 3.
Teachers are able to design their own programme of study within the Museum. Support materials to help you plan your visit are available on this website. Self-directed visits must be booked in advance.
All secondary sessions for the academic year 2007-8 are free, thanks to generous support from the Renaissance in the Regions programme.
