Help us create new stories inspired by Dickens.

Dickens kept a tiny notebook, a ‘memorandum book’, which is now in the Berg Collection at the New York Public Library.

In it, he jotted down ideas for stories and listed also names of novels and characters. Some feature in his work while others were left unused.

To celebrate our Dickens and London exhibition and the bi-centenary of the author’s birth, we want to bring some of these unexplored plots to life.

With the help of Dickens’ fans around the world we hope to build new stories which take inspiration from Dickens’s writing style.

Simply tweet or add a comment on our relevant Facebook post with your suggestion for the next line in the story.

Each storyline will start with a situation and character name(s) from the memorandum book and it will be up to you to take the story forward.

We will choose which of your shared posts best takes the story forward and we will bring the whole story together as it develops here thanks to Storify.

With thanks to the The New York Public Library for use of memorandum book image and content.
