Women in history: private lives, public faces

This six-week course explores the private and public lives of women in 19th and 20th century London.
Each week you will discuss a different theme including women’s work, friendships, advertising and law, offering an opportunity to reflect on the impact women had on wider social, cultural and political change. As part of the course you will use first-hand sources from the archives of Bishopsgate Institute and the Museum of London such as letters, photographs, clothing and recordings.
The first session will take place at Bishopsgate Institute and subsequent sessions will take place at either Bishopsgate Institute or the Museum of London.
