Oil lamp

This page is designed to provide students with learning difficulties with a range of ways to interact with an object from the Museum’s collection. Use the 3D model to visually explore the object by zooming in on it and turning it around using your mouse. The simple caption on the right is also key-word signed with audio in the video below. Tip: your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) can change the size of the text to suit the requirements of your pupils (go to View > Text size).  You may also wish to change your screen resolution (go to Start > Control Panel > Display) to at least 800 pixels high to make sure that all the page all fits on your screen.

This is an oil lamp from a long time ago. It is made of clay and it’s got a flower pattern on it. In the small hole you would put oil and in the big hole you would put string which was lit to make light, like a candle. Rich Romans would have lamps like this one to light their homes.
