VITELLIUS

Emperor AD69

Months of civil war followed the death of Nero, with various contenders to the imperial crown. Vitellius, famous for his dishonesty and vice, was declared emperor with support from troops in Germany, though he later failed to acknowledge the army which elevated him. His greed soon made him lose popularity and his rule in Rome lasted only 13 weeks. The troops supporting the Flavian family marched on Rome and Vitellius was executed.
