The Arsenal Ladies is one of the best ladies teams in the country. The women play for the love of the game but may go professional in the future, especially as media coverage of women's games is getting better. This poster advertised a Premier League match at Highbury. The Arsenal Ladies one the League Cup in 2000 and came third overall in the League.

VIDEO: 'DISABLED AND IN - IT'S AN ACCESS THING'

Artsline's Youth Project, founded 1999, service provider

Artsline's Youth Project provides information to young disabled people who wish to access London's arts and entertainment venues, but don't know how! In the words of Lee Savery, a wheelchair-user aged nineteen, this video 'Stops young disabled people sitting at home, thinking, “God I want to go out but there's nowhere to go”'.

HIJAAB

Asian Women's Advisory Service, founded 1992, service provider

The word hijaab comes from the Arabic word hajabah, which means to hide or conceal. Hijaab acts as a screen for a Muslim woman. She is less likely to be exploited for her beauty or femininity. She need not worry about her appearance and can concentrate on her tasks. A woman wearing hijaab feels secure and protected.

CENTENARY PLATE

Association of Kent and Kentish Men, Bromley Branch, founded 1936, 124 members

The plate symbolises the foundation upon which our Millennium activities will grow and expand. The arm grasping the oak represents the Invicta legend - unconquered Kent. The white horse and blue border - the Kent Coastline and Cinque Ports. The medallions represent the Christian ethic, preservation of our heritage and produce of our county.

The music on the cassette reminds us of our region of France. It is a good way of communicating with our English friends who know the songs well through our numerous meetings.

T-SHIRT

Barnet Cyclists, founded 1983, 300 members

For the last few years Barnet Cyclists have helped organise a ride for our Mayor's chosen charity. Our T-shirt commemorates a sponsored bike ride in the year 2000 for a local cancer support group. Yellow was chosen as it is highly visible and very cheerful - like cycling!

KANGDI

Barnet Elderly Asian Grmailto:ed 1978, 169 members

This item is akin to a hot-water bottle. It is used in severe winters, particularly in north India. Hot charcoal is placed in the clay pot which is covered by the wicker basket. We wanted to donate an item that reflected our cultural heritage.

POETRY BOOK

Bart's Tuition Unit, service provider

During the National Year of Reading, Poetmailto:ty, John Mole, ran poetry sessions with the children at Bart's Hospital. These children are often disadvantaged and marginalised through being ill, and the opportunity to contribute their writing and images to a book, published and launched by the Corporation of London, provided a great boost to their self-esteem.

This photograph shows part of our 40th birthday celebrations at Rotherhithe swimming pool. It is a tribute to the members who have kept the club running during the last 40 years by introducing new generations of divers to the undersea world and captures the spirit of the underwater experience.
