London Keep Fit Association, founded 1958, 200+ members
The leotards show the development of fashion in fitness within our organisation. Just as the tunic has progressed to a modern leotard, so has our work within the Keep Fit Association, developing Laban-based movement.
London Musicians' Collective, founded 1979, 250 members
London Soundscape brings together 36 'Favourite London Sounds' recorded by Peter Cusack as part of the 'Resonance FM' Recorded Sound Library. It reflects the diversity and beauty of London's noises - from the natural to the industrial - in a powerful musical montage.
The London Scrabble League, founded 1971, 165 members
Scrabble means so much to us. Many marriages and lifelong partnerships have been forged amongst League members . Playing the game has become a traditional and important part of British life. It is hugely popular - 53% of homes have a set - and there is a new design for the year 2000.
The London Society, founded 1912, 705 members
The London Society was established to advance the practical improvement and artistic development of London. The journals selected are dated 1914, 1926, 1934, 1941, 1958, 1966, 1978, 1987, 1997 and 2000. They represent the history of our society and the development of London over the 20th Century.
London Underground Society, founded 1961, 950 members
For most society members, unable to attend the monthly talks by specialist
speakers on Underground subjects, Underground News provides the only link
with the society. There are many varied interests - rolling stock, station
architecture, development of station signing and history - all catered
for in the pages of Underground News.
London Wildlife Trust, founded 1981, 7000 members
This model beetle was produced at a children's workshop held in June 2000. 'Stag beetles are special. They are rare, but we have the most in London, so we can help them. If you see a stag beetle, don't stamp on it. Pick it up and put it where you think it will be safe' - William, aged 9.
Mad Mods & Englishmen Scooter Club, founded 1996, 32 members
The logo on the shirt represents our club colours, which we wear with pride when we attend scooter rallies both in the UK and abroad. We feel passionately about scooters and the impact they had on British youth culture during the 1960s. We aim to keep this mode of transport vibrant forever.
Mercers' Company, founded 1394, 251 members
This is the first such published annual review of the Mercers' Company in its long history. It covers every aspect of the company's life and activities, as well as its history. It is, therefore, a very comprehensive record of the Company at the turn of the Millennium.
STICKER & CENTENARY BOOK
Musicians' Union, founded 1893, 31,00 members
In the last millennium music was recognisably first notated and during the last 400 years the European musical tradition has became firmly established. New digital technology will have profound effects on the music business in tomorrow's world. The Musicians' Union will remain a powerful force not only to protect employment opportunities but also to promote the value of live performance.
Museum of London Friends, founded 1992, 642 members
The Museum of London Friends allow members to be closely involved with the Museum and contribute to the acquisition programme. The act of donating to Collecting 2000 satisfies both these aims by adding important pieces to the Museum's contemporary collection - a set of souvenirs from London's main Millennium landmarks.
