John Partridge (1790-1872)

John Partridge left Glasgow in 1815 to seek success in London. He lived first in Marylebone before breaking away from the pack by moving to upper class Grosvenor Square in 1828. His aspirations to the high life are clear in this self-portrait which shows him in his richly furnished drawing room, surrounded by relatives and his fashionably dressed wife.
