To promote himself in the worlds of art and fashion, the charismatic artist Lord Leighton entertained lavishly. He moved to Holland Park in 1865 where his house became the centre of the Melbury Road artists' colony. Leighton House was a showcase for his art and a work of art itself. President of the Royal Academy, he became the only British artist to be made a Lord.
