Chelsea's history as the home of artists began with Turner in 1846. Towards the end of his career he wanted a retreat to retire from the London art world. Adopting the pseudonym 'Admiral Booth', Turner settled at 6 Davis Place (119 Cheyne Walk) and maintained his central London studio for the little painting he still did.
