Louise Jopling (1843-1933)

Louise Jopling was one of Victorian London's new women artists. She complained about the exclusion of women from the life class at the Royal Academy and in 1887 set up a school to train professional women artists at her house in Clareville Grove, Kensington. The blue and white porcelain in this painting was very fashionable among those with advanced 'aesthetic' tastes.
