Between 1973 and 1980
the empty warehouses of Butler's Wharf became London's largest
post-war artists colony. Occupants included the film maker Derek
Jarman, and sculptor Andrew Logan. The colony ended abruptly around
1980 when the warehouses were sold to property developers. Stephen
Cripps was a legendary pyrotechnic sculptor who occupied space
in Butler's Wharf, next door to Michael Heindorff.
