Hoxton Square is the
current centre for artistic activity in the East End. A catalyst
of the Hoxton scene was the visionary art entrepreneur Joshua
Compston who opened his Factual Nonsense Gallery in Charlotte
Road in the early 90s. The Lux Centre opened in 1997, followed
in 2000 by The White Cube2 Gallery run by leading BritArt dealer
Jay Jopling.
