commemorative handkerchief, 1951

Souvenir handkerchief commemorating the Festival of Britain. Each corner of the handkerchief depicts a great event in British history - Queen Boadicea's battle with the Romans, the signing of the Magna Carta, the knighting of Sir Frances Drake and the battle of Trafalgar - with the Festival Star logo in the centre.

A condiment set and sugar dredger in orange plastic. A green model of this set was highlighted in the Council of Industrial Design's publication 'Design Review' and described as being 'typical of good design for mass production, using the curved form characteristic of the plastic moulding process' and was described as being 'sold inexpensively over the counters of a thousand chain-stores'.

Recommended films included 'London Style', 'a description of the manufacture of rayon from wood pulp'; 'The British - are they artistic?' a 'Modern Age series on the new enthusiasm for culture'; and 'Voice of Ulster' a 'picture of Ulster today'.
