South Bank
Exhibition Plan
Leaflet, 3d. At
the core of the South Bank site was an exhibition detailing British
achievement through two interrelated themes, the Land and the People
of Britain. These were presented in a succession of Pavilions within
an Upstream and a Downstream Circuit, separated by the Dome of Discovery
with its focus on British exploration. The Guides emphasize the narrative
structure, describing an ‘unfolding tale’ with the Pavilions as chapters
and the displays as paragraphs. They stress the value of visitors following
the ‘recommended circulation’, advising that those choosing their own
route ‘may find that some of the chapters will appear mystifying and
inconsequent’. |
