Linking Lives

The past meets the present for the future

Linking Lives is a new community initiative which aims to introduce people from disadvantaged and culturally diverse groups to the full breadth of what London has to offer. Linking Lives' innovative projects will draw on the Museum's remarkable social history and archaeological collection of over 3 million objects, and our staff expertise and practical resources. Projects will be based at the Museum but many will also include outreach work. The current range of projects includes:

  • literacy and communication skills workshops
  • video projects
  • community-led exhibitions
  • involvement in gallery drama

We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has funded a two-year Community Liaison Officer post dedicated to developing and delivering the Linking Lives projects.

We are creating partnerships with major City companies in order to fund the projects. Employees will be encouraged to contribute their skills to the projects in order to establish long-term links between the company and the community.

A new Centre Court is planned for 2006-7. This has been designed especially for community events and performances and will be a light and airy space in the centre of the Museum, connected to all the surrounding galleries. The Centre Court will provide an exceptional public arena in the heart of London.

We welcome approaches from interested groups who would like to participate in our programme.
