This exhibition charts the revolution in shopping, from the Elephant and Castle centre - built in 1965 to create a 'Piccadilly of the South' - to the explosion of smaller urban and suburban centres in the 1980s and 90s. Today Greater London is home to two of Britain's largest American-style shopping malls - Lakeside and Bluewater. Here customers are 'guests' and leisure facilities have become an essential part of the complex. Controversial proposals for the development at White City bring the debate into the present. Items on display include specially commissioned photographs, architects' models and past interior design schemes. Plus, design your own shopping centre using a unique interactive computer programme.
