Holidays of a lifetime: a Museum of London touring exhibition

“Before I go to a place I read about the flora and fauna, and then I find out about historical places and prepare a full programme. I am more interested in the culture, the language of the people, their way of life, their past history and so on. That is why I travel.”
(Arulanantham Emmanuel, born in Sri Lanka, 1930)

How local people are contributing

Holidays of a lifetime features Londoners just like you. Everyone has a holiday tale to tell and in this exhibition Londoners from many different walks of life share their stories. Many of the memories and mementos featured come from the Museum of London’s collections, particularly its growing oral history collection. Other stories come from local people, gathered through workshops linked to the exhibition.

The Museum of London is working with local community groups in each of the boroughs to which Holidays of a Lifetime is touring. The views and experiences of the workshop participants will be reflected in the exhibition, through the display of their own personal souvenirs and stories. In this way the exhibition will grow as it travels around London’s boroughs. Visit Holidays of a lifetime to learn more about how other people see the world.
