Access and enquiries

Contact us for:

  • information about our collections
  • help with identifying objects found in London.

Research visits (currently unavailable)

Due to critical collections work, including the complete reorganisation of the museum’s storage, research access will be closed from the end of December 2022 for two years.

During this period it will not be possible to book tour visits to the archive. This will be reviewed after 18 months. Archaeological contractors requiring access to archive records can contact us at [email protected].

Object donations

We regret that we are currently unable to accept new object donations. This is so that we can focus on getting the collections currently stored at London Wall ready for the move to our new home in Smithfield. Whilst we undertake this essential work, we will only be acquiring new objects in exceptional cases, which we have already identified. We realise this may be disappointing news, but we hope you will understand the reasons for our decision.

Phone and email enquiries

We are available for questions about our collections or the history of the museum only. We do not have the resources to assist with enquiries about family history, or to undertake detailed historical research on your behalf.

We aim to reply within 20 working days of receipt, but are currently running a reduced service due to work on the New Museum project so complex enquiries may take a little longer.

The Museum of London does not offer a valuation service.

Use the contact us form to submit your request.
