Summary
A trench across Upper Thames Street 20m E of the Mermaid Theatre (before its moving to a new site nearby in 1979) found a fragment of Roman masonry, evidence of river erosion and surface of Thames Street from the 12th c. The masonry is identified as part of the Roman riverside wall, dated on the adjacent Baynard's Castle site (BC75) to 255-70.
