Summary
A N-S wall, composed of chalk blocks, may have been medieval in date. Garden soil of medieval or later date was followed by arch-founded brick walls, considered to be the S side and SE corner of the Ordnance Factory of 1706. A cellar with a stepped window light seems to have been part of this building. After its demolition the area was apparently left open; debris and domestic rubbish were dumped and some external surfaces were laid. A system of drains was then constructed above which was the remains of a brick floor, set in rectangular patterns, and a brick foundation. This is considered to be the remains of the horse stables of the goods railway yard of the London and Blackwall Railway Company which bought the site in 1851. Warehouses were then built on the site, represented by concrete floors laid in the 20th c.
