Summary
Excavations found a series of artificial terracings of the riverbank of the late 1st and early 2nd c, comprising three sets of post and plank revetments, backfilled with a variety of rubbish and artefacts; environmental remains were particularly well represented in waterlogged conditions. A masonry foundation crossed the site from W to E in the late Roman period. Post-Roman features included a Saxo-Norman wicker-lined pit and a timber-lined well. The site was informally known as 'The Triangle'; hence the site code of TR74 and the use of the name in some reports.
