Summary
Excavation in 1974 revealed part of a Roman road (Roman Road 2) which ran in a NW-SE direction and had been resurfaced at least five times. It may date from the pre-Flavian period, and occupation close by continued into the late 4th c. A late Roman well and two stone walls were sealed by dark earth. On the E side of the site was found a medieval wall, probably part of the priory of St Mary Overy.
