How to use this site
Through investigating the six objects, children can discover what life was like for Tudor Londoners.
It is suggested that pupils work in pairs or small groups, starting with the object pages. There is a specific question on each object designed to encourage children to work as detectives, looking for clues and collecting evidence. The biographical stories personalise the objects and provide specific evidence about the lives of individuals.
Each object page has a link to two others:
One page answers the specific question posed and provides more information about the object. The other gives information about a relevant theme related to the QCA schemes of work. The thematic information is not intended to be comprehensive, but to act as a stimulus to further research.
Through working with objects in this way, it is hoped that pupils will gain an understanding of how to interpret them as evidence of life in the past. At the Museum of London, you can see all the objects featured on this site in the Tudor gallery, together with many others from our extensive collection.
Schools can also book object-handling sessions in which pupils handle original Tudor artefacts. For more information, see the website or call the Box Office on 0870 444 3850.
