Eighteenth Century London

The gallery describes the rapid growth of the eighteenth century city, with its new architecture, services, transport and entertainment. Many industries flourished, including the fine gold and silverwork, glass, ceramics, textiles and printed works on display. Religious and social changes are also in evidence.

The displays address themes relating to National Curriculum study units: expansion of trade, industrialisation and its impact on cultural developments, the role of scientists, crown and parliament and the growth of political parties.
