Dark Age, Anglo-Saxon & Medieval London gallery

This gallery spans a thousand years, from 'dark age' London in the fifth century AD to the clamour of the fifteenth century capital. Displays show shoes, swords, pottery, souvenirs of pilgrimages, sculptures and even a baby's cradle. Room settings allow pupils to view a kitchen and bedroom of the period. The first section, Dark Age and Saxon London, describes the period after Roman withdrawal, including Saxon settlement and Viking raids.

The Medieval London gallery provides evidence and information on: the structure of medieval society, towns, guilds and charters, overseas trade, religious and secular art, architecture and Geoffrey Chaucer.
