Our London Wall site is now closed after 45 brilliant years, but we are continuing our extraordinary journey to give the capital and the world a new museum for London. The new museum coming in 2026 will be situated at the heart of the capital’s historic West Smithfield.

Until then, you can still explore our online collections which houses all sorts of objects from the Suffragettes, Great Fire of London 1666, Cheapside Hoard and the more obscure (think Roman bone hairpins and Iron Age dice).

    Great Fire of London 1666

On 2 September 1666, an event started that would change the face of London. By the time it was over four days later, much of the medieval city lay in smoking ruins. These objects from our collections tell the story of the Great Fire.

    Cheapside Hoard

For almost 300 years a buried treasure lay undisturbed below one of London's busiest streets. Discovered in 1912, the Cheapside Hoard is the greatest single collection of Elizabethan and Stuart jewellery in the world.
