London's VoicesHolidays of a Lifetime

Holidays of a lifetime: a Museum of London touring exhibition

“We had a holiday in Blackpool in the 1950s. The weather was diabolical. It was a howling gale and we used to sit in the café and watch the people holding on to lampposts, wearing a pac-a-mac and being blown along. Being plastic they kept the wind in them like a wind sail.”
(Betty Phillips, born in London, 1923)

This touring exhibition will bring back memories for anyone who has ever been on holiday. Do you remember collecting shells on the beach, setting up camp, or going abroad for the very first time? Where do you go to escape the routine of everyday life? Holidays of a lifetime explores the history of holiday-making through the eyes and voices of Londoners.
