"This is a food market generally, it was a food market and that brings the people in. I think a lot of people have gone away…Sunday trading has taken a lot of people away, a lot of Turkish people go to Haringey and places like that where they’re open 24 hours a day. But West Indian people, this was a West Indian market for a number of years, before that a Jewish market for the Jewish people. But now it’s for all the varieties but you know, there is a good choice down here and it’s a vibrant market and it’s open six days a week. You can come and shop six days a week except for Sunday. We’re trying to open Sunday but the management won’t let us. No, we need a rest on a Sunday." Brian Chaikin, born in 1948 |
