The Pike in Hollow Ponds

by Alan Wylie

In 1976, one of the hottest summers ever recorded, myself and my family moved from Glasgow to Leytonstone. I was 10 years old and loved to use Epping forest as my playground. One of my favourite places was the Hollow Ponds, disused gravel pits.

One of the stories about the ponds is that there was a giant pike that could swallow ducks and geese whole, although I never knew anyone that had actually seen it.
